I almost said I loved you, but

then almost died of fright,

and almost dashed back through the door

into the almost night,

where I would almost have gone mad,

yet then you almost smiled

and I was almost certain that

you almost had me filed

as someone you had almost loved,

would almost have said yes,

how by my side you’d almost felt

almost happiness . . .

So now I’m all mixed up because

it’s almost time to go,

and what your answer almost was

I’ll never ever know.
